I am a professional product designer so I'll break it down in that way.
DESIGN is good. The tent is lightweight, aerodynamic and looks premium. When it's closed, it's very discreet in the way I have it mounted. It doesn't LOOK like a RTT. Mounting was easy and removal is not bad either. Many details have clearly been thought through during the design process. The small awning mounts are neatly integrated (particularly the front) and the interior layout is comfortable for myself, my wife and our 4-year old son. It's a little cramped for all of us, but normally, it's just me and my son using this RTT as we have an off road trailer for family adventures.
QUALITY is great, All the materials seem of good quality and the construction is high quality as well.
ERGONOMICS is where I dinged a star. Setup is easy and super-fast, but putting it away is more work. Still easier than other RTT designs, but not as easy as our previous setup. The issue is the tent fabric gets stuck outside the interior struts, this makes the "pull-cords" used for pulling in tent fabric kind of useless. You have to manually tuck in the material pretty carefully. Trying to close this unit with the insulation kit inside is a real chore. I have practiced many times and it's always a pain to close this easily. The latches do not make it any easier! Also, the interior side pockets are not great. Very basic organization and the pockets contact the lower frame. This is not good on your phone.
COMFORT is not good. The mattress is just over 1" thick and made from very basic sponge foam. My hips and shoulders contact the metal floor and I weight 150lbs. We immediately replaced the foams with an inflatable unit from Exped and it's been way more comfortable. Also, by deflating the pad, it's much easier to close the tent up.
Overall, I would certainly recommend the tent. We also got all the accessories and Annex as well. It's a nice system. We endured extreme winds on our first major trip. 30-50 mph gusts. I had to reorient the truck/tent and needed to use the strut braces. We also had to adjust the rainfly to channel the winds...but we all survived and there was no damage to the tent. The next few nights saw 70mph gusts...so we went home!

Easy set up and easy to pack up. A very good investment, if you want a quick rtt to put up and put away

Have spent 3 nights in the new ikamper . One night below 30F and another night over 30 mph winds on the Washington shore. It’s really surprising how quiet and comfortable it is, even in high wind. The insulation liner makes things very cozy. We love sleeping in our ikamper.

Been overnight two times so far and love it

We conducted months of research prior to choosing the SkyCamp Mini. We knew exactly what we wanted and iKamper checked all the boxes. We received our Mini end of October and have been gone more weekends than home since! We are comfy and cozy in our Traveling Treehouse! We have been RTT owners for almost 5 years and are so happy for our choice to upgrade. The ease of set up and take down were one of the biggest reasons for this decision as we very rarely stay more than one night in one place. We couldn't be happier with our decision!

Excellent camper with room for 2 adults comfortably and enough for a young child as well! Easy setup and takedown which is great for last minute trips with the fam. Feels stable and sturdy, with no leaks in first rain. As far as comfort, it’s not like camping on the ground, the mattress is excellent so I have been leaving sleeping pads it home. Would highly recommend this to anyone interested!

I chose the Ikamper mini as it almost looks like it was designed for my Tacoma . The color scheme goes right along with my truck , and I like how easy it is to deploy . That being said , I would like to make a couple of suggestions to Ikamper . I have seen these comments on several Overlanding Videos , and I have to say I agree with them . First thing is the mattress is hard as a rock . I have already ordered a replacement mattress that is natural latex , and hopefully much softer . Next , I found if you dont get the mattress pads perfectly centered, The lid can be very hard to close for the last few inches . I have also heard since the floor is bare aluminum, there can be condensation issues underneath the mattress in cold environments. I saw one guy use stick on carpet squares to remedy this since there isn't much room for anything thicker . Finally , I wish IKamper either offered paintable , or already painted badge covers to cover up the chrome lettering . The red K is cool , but I would like my chrome letters to be tan to match my truck . Otherwise , I love my IKamper , and look forward to using it often !

I love my ikamper mini! Took me awhile to pull the trigger on it but the best purchase I have made!

My wife and I absolutely enjoy our iKamper Mini and plan to use it for years to come. This is also a perfect addition for my weekend hunts. Oh, it also makes my TACOMA look awesome.

Love this rooftop tent. Quick and easy to set up. Makes camping fun, convenient, and way more comfortable. I plan on camping way more now since I got it.

The insulator worked great in 27-35F temps, feeling like a 4 season tent and easy to assemble in my sky camp mini.
Also highly recommend the awning, to stay dry in the rain and making it easier cooking when car camping.

I did a lot of research before making this purchase. It was over my initial budget, but so glad I moved forward and made the investment. The ease of install and setup is amazing. So happy with the Mini. Great quality.

Ikamper mini is perfect for our needs and my truck. Really easy setup. Only advise is leave side windows slightly open when camping overnight, due to some condensation. Otherwise amazing tent, you get what you pay for.

I think it’s a great fit for my Tacoma. Works and holds up great in 40+ mph winds. Plenty of room for 2 adults with small bags and shoes. The ladder is a bit tricky and I have not mastered it. Seems to have some play in it that resolved itself only when your getting in the tent and your weight bears down. The other issue I have is the steel braided cable latch handles. If your pulling on the rubber it slips down and covers the loop making very difficult to latch

Took my mini to the red rocks of Nevada. Easy set up , good quality materials and looks awesome. Had plenty of people turn heads!

This was a great addition to our outdoor lifestyle. Solid design , easy setup.

Great functionality and quality. Glad that I chose the Rocky Black finish. The mattress is comfortable but I would like to have a spare cover option. I had to add a modified condensation mat which is useful below 40F. Enough space for two regular fit adults.

This is probably one of the highest quality RTT made today. The materials and construction are top notch. Setup and take down are extremely easy. No more than a minute or 2. iKamper is far ahead of other RTT manufacturers. However there are 2 significant issues.
THE MATTRESS IS TERRIBLE!!!! Like laying a hardwood floor.
There is no room for bedding. You could possibly cram some in but it would be a pain and risk damaging the hardshell.
Like all RTT in humid climates you will get condensation build up under the mattress. I have experienced zero on the interior other than the floor.
I added some closed cell foam flooring as a condensation barrier along with some extra padding under the mattress. It keeps the mattress dry but you will still need to air the floor out once you are home. I may buy some foam and get rid of the stock mattress. Another member from Expedition Portal recommended this company for the foam.

For over a month we visited 8 National parks from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and South Dakota and called our mini home. We camped in everything from blazing heat, pouring rain, snow and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Since then we have made use of the mini camping at trailheads for completion of 14ers (5 this summer/fall). Rarely have we camped and not have had inquiries about our set-up and happily provided positive feedback. Have been very satisfied with our purchase and would not hesitate to purchase again.

Camping with a difference!

So happy with our mini skycamp.
we slept in it for 2 weeks and it was perfect.
We can only recommend this RTT to all adventurers.

We purchased the iKamper Mini to put on our 2019 Honda CR-V, atop Yakima JetStream rack and crossbars. Together with the awning and shoe rack (the dark "box" beneath the awning), the Mini makes for the perfect, easy-to-use RTT combination. You should know that the product support team at iKamper is absolutely fantastic!! We highly recommend these products (Mini, awning, and shoe rack), this company, and its team without any reservations!

I researched a number of roof top tents and love the ease of setting and taking down the tent. Very easy and under just a couple of minutes. The mattress is actually quite comfortable. It was really easy to install. When delivered it was simply take it out of the carton and place it on the truck rack, secure with the fasteners and we were ready to camp. Very good product, highly recommended.

Well built - a bit pricey. This is a warm tent - heavy fabric compared to regular tents. Need to keep a window opened. It is almost a full black out tent - so you may need to keep a flashlight nearby for midnight exits or to keep your orientation.
Mounted on Diamond back cover with custom Front runner rails and bars. Set up for Front Runner quick iKamper tent release mount. Easy on and off at 125 pounds. Open and closes in a minute. Mattress is thin (noted by many others online) so added an inch of foam. May need to go back to using my Nemo air mattress. A condensation mat is a must have.
For the money, I wish the cover was 2 or 3 inches taller to allow storing sleeping bags and thicker mattress . While I saw comments that sleeping bags could be left inside, that didn't work and I could not close the tent without removing the extra foam pad and summer thin sleeping bags. Also, would gave preferred a flatter top to mount solar panels.
Tall enough inside to move around and dress but a stand alone changing room is a must for mid day changes or to remove a wet bathing suit.
Overall, does as expected and my set up over pick up truck bed allows easy garage parking

Great equipment, quality better than expected. Easy to install. Very excited about the product and look forward to continuing to use it and see what else the company may develop

Great tent, sleeps really well. Super water proof - stayed dry after multiple rain showers. Easy to deploy and close down. Bigger than you might think - room for two average sized people and a small kid or two in a pinch.
Daniel C.
Really happy with the tent. I call it my mobile fishing camp. Easy install, comfortable and a game changer. I went with the mini. On my 2020 4Runner it sits far back enough that my moonroof is unobscured.
Luis G.
The best purchase I made in years!!! Love it and find myself out a lot more because of the easy set up.
Marco Z.
Beautiful, functional and fast to setup. I added a memory foam mattress for added comfort.
When new the unit had a heavy solvent smell which lingered despite airing the tent out. Ikamper should consider using a milder solvent . After a month the smell was reduced and all is good. The speed n of setups definitely the greatest advantage, which means ultimately more freedom to decide where you will camp!

We LOVE so much about our iKamper. We love how easy it is to pop open and get going- closing it up is very easy as well. We love how it fits on our truck bed with room for a bike rack too, and we love our little go-anywhere sleeping pod.
We were disappointed with the foam pad that came with the iKamper- it was pretty much terrible. We were expecting better quality sleeping foam at that price. We wound up needing to buy an expensive exped air mattress to change out the pad with in order to make it sleepable. It was challenging to find something we could trade out with the factor foam. This was a bummer after spending so much on the ikamper.
In the end- we still love it.

We rented a Mini for three nights of camping and loved it. It was easy (for two seniors) to set up and put down. We had no difficulty with the ladder or with tucking in the tent as we put it down. We loved the skylight. My only complaint would be that it is a tad narrow for two adults - certainly smaller than a double bed. With two (slender) adults sleeping in bulky sleeping bags, it was a tight squeeze. It was difficult to roll over without disturbing the other person. On the other hand, my 6'1" DH had lots of room to stretch out to his full height. Great tent! Good fun! Just please make the next version a tad wider.

The camper is very difficult to fold back:
1. The side walls stick out, need to tuck them back in. That is not easy when the tent is mounted high on the roof. With everything in place and no extra bedding it is still difficult to bring the shell all the way down to have the latched hooked on and locked.
2. The ladder is clumsy. The fact that it slides down when unlocked makes it difficult to fold it back, one would need a third hand to push up the ladder while using the other two for keeping it unlocked.

I just came from the Peruvian highlands. Temperatures below zero and high winds overnight....the RTT behave UNBELIEVABLE. I'm like a little kid in Walt Disney, thank you for this amazing product Ikamper. I would apprreciate you guys even more if you apply vegan certification to your brand, just an advice. Enjoy life you all!!
JERRY B.
Everything is great except the front section of the mattress is to thin. Needs to be an inch or two more..
Carl O.
Hello iKamper! I actually just installed the Skycamp mini as of today. That bad boy was heavier than I expected with two people.. I almost blew out my shoulder trying to lift that thing. Some mishaps along the way, but we managed to get it up on the truck bed. I haven't had a chance to pop it open just yet.. Kind of waiting till I take it out and about. So far, it looks super sweet!
Todd H.
I really, really wanted to love the Skycamp Mini. But it has some serious flaws that really decrease the enjoyment of its use.
I anxiously awaited its arrival, especially in the face of COVID-19. iKamper did a great job communicating with everyone and getting the units shipped out in a timely manner.
1. Closing the mini is a nightmare
First, the SkyCamp Mini is *incredibly* difficult to close. I'm not talking about the force needed to compress the gas struts that pop the tent open. I'm talking about gathering all the fabric which easily jams in the sides. I'm talking about getting the mattresses stacked up and lined up perfectly. I;'m talking about having to re-open and rearrange things multiple times to get it even close to closing.
The instruction videos specifically say not to use the outside latches as a lever to close the Mini. That's almost impossible to do. Getting the Mini to a point when you can even attach the wire loop of the latches around the catch is a serious chore.
Want to store bedding in your mini? No. Forget about it. More likely you'll be pulling the mattresses out and throwing them in your vehicle just so you don't have to spend ten minutes struggling to get it closed. Whats the point if you have to store all your bedding and mattresses in your vehicle? The case for the mini should have been at least an inch taller to make it easier to close and to enable storage of bedding.
2. The ladder is sticky.
My ladder doesn't unfold without a lot of effort. The safety catches don't consistently latch. And when I go to fold the ladder up, there are several rungs that simply won't compress without a lot of effort and jiggling and wiggling the section.
3. The Mini sleeps really cold.
This might be a problem specific with rooftop tents, but the Mini sleeps very, very cold. Much colder than even an ultralight weight backpacking tent. I don't know if it's the mattress, or all the air underneath, but if you live anywhere even remotely cold, expect to bring along your heaviest bag (stored in your vehicle, of course, see point 1).
Ethan V.
It's been on one trip, but so far, the tent is awesome and works exactly as expected.
Micro-adjustment on the ladder would be a huge plus since the ground is rarely perfectly flat.
Eric D.
I slept overnight in my mini probably 6 or 7 times now and it's great, I love it. It's super easy to put up and take down and the mattress is more comfy than I expected. It's also nice to set up just for the day parked in a nice spot along the coast. Super stoked on my purchase!
Lisa L S.
I love this RTT, the fit is perfect in my Jeep Gladiator, looks like it was made for it. Easy to deploy, easy to fold up, one person operation. Great Customer Service too. I’m truly impressed, highly recommend.

Fantastic...will not disappoint

I love how easy the Skycamp Mini opens and how quickly I can setup and be ready to relax. I often camp alone and find the Mini has a ton of room, is comfortable and very high quality construction. I purchased the Mini knowing it was high quality, but it still amazed me. In the first two months I’ve slept in the Mini 10 times. Can’t stop, won’t stop.
Richard C.
I have the skycamp 2.0, X Cover, and bow the Mini. Ikaper, you completely me. Lol. I love the product, functionality, and of course the time it takes or lack of to put up and take down. The only small concern I have is the mounting hardware. I have a tick bar on my rack and your new rack mount is just not long enough. I had to improvise. Anyway perhaps give the buyer the option to get your old design with longer screws.
CJ M.
This mini fits perfect on a Jeep, allowing you to still have access to opening the drive & passenger roof top.
Edward K.
I have only had the opportunity to use the Mini on one trip due to the current pandemic. However, the tent is very well constructed and easy to put up and take down. The mounting hardware that comes with the unit worked great. The hard-shell design and low profile cut down on the drag and noise at speeds on the road. Glad I waited to get the iKamper Mini.
Thought the mattress was a little on the hard side. This is my personal opinion it may be great for others. I bought the shoe bag also which seems to be designed for the 2.0 and is to big to hang beside the ladder on the Mini.
Limwell M.
I love my mini! Employing it is a breeze and easy to put away. I was very surprised how much room it is once deployed. I highly recommend it!
Luke K.
Love it so far! Light weight, well made and tough shell.
